Giro

Last weekend was the Duluth Classic stage race. Duluth proved it has bi-polar weather patterns yet again. Shawn proved to be an awesome teammate by providing beer yet again. I helped out Sunday and Monday. It was fun watching and cheering for everyone, especially Double B in the KOM jersey.

Giro's almost over. It's my favorite grand tour. Too bad I didn't keep up on it as much as I would have liked. It's not on tv everyday the way it used to. One the best things about the Giro is the awesome Italian names. A couple off the top, that I could say all day long:

Raffaele Illiano (Ita) Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni-Androni Giocattoli
Carlo Scognamiglio (Ita) Barloworld

Another week wrapping up at the Outdoor Stream Lab. Today alone I cut fiberglass sheet pile, more surveying, hauled rock around, took some pictures for my boss, dug some more holes. I love my job and I am learning so much. In a few weeks we get to feel smart and start installing instruments, until then it's more Pig Pen and Construction Man.

Ashy Larry

After Finals ended I finally got a chance to do some catching up. I was in Duluth last week spending time with family and old friends. I did all my favorite Duluth rides, and for the first couple of mornings it was cold, like 36F. Brrr.
Had lunch with Luke and my brother Ted at the Wabegon. The Wabegon is almost in the woods, off Hwy 23 less than a mile from my Mom's house. The Wabegon is on the Wisconsin border, so you can still smoke inside the bar. Luke just got back from hiking through India and Thailand. We used to get in trouble growing up.

Started my new job at SAFL/NCED, St. Anthony Falls Laboratory/National Center for Earth-surface Dynamics. I love it already. It's the coolest place to work. Day one I get thrown into helping with the construction phase. I already have a farmer tan, looks hot with steel-toed boots. I'm already learning so much, even some surveying. We were digging a trench
and the soil kept caving in on the sides. I think we re-dug it 2,3 times in some spots. I get dusty, dirty, and ashy.

Gluek

Saturday was the Gluek RR in Marty. Even people who I go to school with in St. Cloud don't know where Marty is. It's an intersection with a church, pop machine, school, and a bar.
It was my first offical non-collegiate race of the season. It was fun racing with the girls. I ended up 5th. Then I helped out my Lake Superior and SCSU teammates in the afternoon race.
I missed one of my Finals today...actually the final was giving my presentation on Natural Attenuation for my Chemical Hydrogeology class. I wrote down the wrong final time and felt like a complete idiot. Fortunately I was still able to do my presentation after my final for my Physical Hydrogeology class, for the same professor. The fun doesn't stop there, I still have a take home final for Chem Hydro and Calculus final on Wed.
I picked up a Potato and Onion bin for my Mom for Mother's Day. I can't wait to see the look on her face. She is without a doubt the most amazing woman I've ever known. I tell her that year round, not just on Mother's Day.
